Overview

The Many Loves of Casanova Slipcase Edition by Jacques Casanova (Author), (cover art by Bill Edwards) (Illustrator) Vol 1 & 2 Holloway House Unread book ,

Slipcase is in acceptable condition.

He original translation of Casanova's exploits, once published in a two-volume case edition, is now released by Holloway House Publishing as The Many Loves of Casanova - in a single trade edition size that is bound to charm readers with the adventures of the original 'man who so loved women.' Once limited to few eyes due to a restricted private printing - and then reserved to collectors' shelves for years - this 45th anniversary edition of Holloway House's original will remind readers of the joys of amorous adventure (so different from the stark sexual advertisement of our 21st century). "There are few more delightful books in the world," wrote English sexual psychologist Havelock Ellis. Today's illustrated edition, translated by Welsh novelist Arthur Machen, focuses on the stories of Casanova's loves.

About the author (2006)

Giacomo Casanova was born in Venice in 1725. His parents, both actors, wanted him to become a priest, but their hopes were dashed when, at sixteen, he was expelled from seminary for immoral misconduct. Probably best-known for his reputation as a womanizer, Casanova was in turn a secretary, a soldier in the Venetian army, a preacher, an alchemist, a gambler, a violinist, a lottery director, and a spy. He translated Homer's Iliad into Italian and collaborated with Da Ponte on the libretto for Mozart's Don Giovanni. He retired in 1785 to the castle of a friend -- Count Waldstein of Bohemia -- in order to write his memoirs.

Edwards is a native Hoosier, Navy veteran, retired banker, and a writer of glass books for Collector Books.
